Bourbon Baby brings modern designs to reclaimed bourbon barrels. Crafted by barrel coopers, bourbon barrels are made from 30-35 white oak staves that have spent months seasoning in the open air. Once the staves are combined, a barrel is then charred on the inside, which will ultimately give bourbon it’s distinct color and flavor. After aging bourbon quietly for many years, most barrels are reused to age whiskey for the Scotch, Canadian, and Irish whiskey industries. Leah Arnold, the founder of Bourbon Baby, wanted a different destiny for these bourbon barrels. With over a decade of experience as a professional designer—and with a husband who is a craft whiskey distiller—she realized that the beauty of each barrel stave could be turned into home decor designs with modern highlights that reflected her own style and artistic passions. Each barrel stave is characterized by patterns that are unique to its wood grain and char pattern, meaning that every piece Leah creates will carry its own subtle signatures.
